BCEA Week of 2/2

Good morning, Eagles! As you get ready to watch the first round of the Beanpot tonight, check out all of the events and opportunities BCEA has to offer. We have an exciting lineup this week, including the first Eaglenomics episode of the semester and our Careers in Economics event on Wednesday!

Careers in Economics Event

*Please note the location for this event has changed!*

Join us for a discussion with Philip Guarino from the BC Career Center and Professor Matthew Rutledge from the Economics Department on the career paths open to economics majors, job search tips, and industry insights. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 4th from 6:30-7:30 pm in Fulton Room 230.

Eaglenomics is Back!

Joining us today is Professor Jonathan Kirshner, Professor of political science and international studies at Boston College. His work focuses on international relations and political economy, and he has written many books on these topics including An Unwritten Future, Realism and Uncertainty in World Politics, and America After the Financial Crisis. He is also a Professor of International Political Economy Emeritus in the Department of Government at Cornell University. He received his bachelor’s from Johns Hopkins University, and both his master’s and PhD from Princeton University. Listen to the episode here!

Demystifying Consulting Panel

Deloitte will be hosting a Demystifying Consulting Panel on Tuesday, February 3rd from 7:00-8:30 pm in Higgins Room 300. The panel will discuss an introduction to Deloitte and consulting, examples of how real-life skills translate to work in the industry, and insights into career opportunities and recruiting pathways at Deloitte. There will also be a chance for an open Q&A and networking with professionals. This is a great opportunity for students to network and learn more about consulting.

Econ Cafe

The next Econ Cafe will take place on Wednesday, February 11th from 2-4pm in the Econ Department lobby. Stop by to enjoy some snacks and coffee as you get to know other economics students!

Peer-to-Peer Stata and Econometrics Help

Are you taking an upper-level elective that has you doing problem sets or projects that involve Stata programming or econometric modeling? Or are you in the Econometrics or Statistics labs? Are you writing a thesis?

The Econ Help Desk is a talented, experienced team of undergrads ready to help their peers with problem sets, assignments, and research projects involving Stata programming and/or econometric analysis. Each Help Desk team member will be available twice a week for in-person or Zoom live help. They can also answer questions asynchronously through posts on Ed Discussion. For more information on each team member's specific hours and how to access the help, please see the Econ Help Desk site

The Econ Help Desk will start on Tuesday, January 20, and run through the beginning of study days at the end of the semester. No appointment is necessary, but please do plan ahead (especially for end-of-semester assignments).

Apply to the Eagle Intern Fellowship!

The BC Career Center's Eagle Intern Fellowship removes financial barriers for students seeking to pursue unpaid summer internship opportunities in industries of interest. The fellowship is open to students in good academic standing who have secured a summer internship and have demonstrated financial need (as determined by the Boston College Financial Aid office). There are three chances to apply this semester–the first deadline is Monday, February 23 and the application officially opens on February 1! Learn more and apply here

IMPORTANT - 73% of the students who applied for grants for the summer of 2025 received one. You can meet with one of their career coaches to craft a backup plan, in case your internship is not funded.
